Chapter 21: When Life Chooses You
Morning entered Rathod Palace softly.
Not with noise.
Not with announcements.
But with the quiet authority that only something sacred carried.
Ishita stood in front of the mirror, her hand unconsciously resting on her stomach. She wasn't smiling. She wasn't scared either.
She was... listening.
To her body.
To the shift inside her.
To the truth that had waited patiently for her to be ready.
Kabir watched her from the doorway.
He hadn't slept.
Not because of Rafael.
Not because of business.
But because the possibility of this—this fragile, miraculous change—had undone him in ways violence never could.
"You don't have to come," Ishita said softly.
Kabir shook his head immediately. "I won't let you walk into that room alone."
She looked at him then. Really looked.
"You're scared," she said.
Kabir exhaled a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "I've faced wars without blinking," he admitted. "But this... this can change everything."
She stepped toward him, resting her forehead against his chest.
"Then let it," she whispered.

The Confirmation
The hospital corridor was quiet. Discreet. Private.
No staff whispers.
No media.
No Rathod name echoing through halls.
Just a doctor.
Just a woman.
Just a moment that would redraw futures.
Kabir sat beside Ishita, his fingers entwined with hers so tightly it was almost painful.
The doctor entered with a file and a smile that softened instantly when she saw their expressions.
"Dr. Sharma," she said gently, "the reports are clear."
Ishita's breath caught.
Kabir didn't speak.
"You're pregnant," the doctor said. "Six weeks."
Silence.
Not empty silence—full silence. Heavy with meaning.
Ishita's eyes filled, but she didn't cry.
Kabir stood abruptly, one hand bracing against the table as if the room had shifted.
"Are you sure?" he asked, his voice dangerously quiet.
The doctor smiled knowingly. "Very."
Kabir turned to Ishita.
She was smiling now—soft, stunned, glowing in a way no palace jewel could replicate.
"We're going to be parents," she whispered.
Kabir dropped to his knees in front of her.
Not in weakness.
In reverence.
He pressed his forehead to her hand. "I swear," he said, voice breaking for the first time in years, "this child will never know fear."
Ishita cupped his face. "Then we protect each other first."

Rajmata Knows
They didn't tell the family immediately.
They didn't need to.
Rajmata Rathod already knew.
She stood in the temple wing of the palace, lighting a diya with steady hands as Ishita entered.
No questions.
No shock.
Just understanding.
"You carry life," Rajmata said calmly, without turning. "And danger follows life like a shadow."
Ishita froze.
Kabir stepped forward. "Dadi—"
Rajmata raised a hand.
"I have ruled empires of silence longer than both of you have lived," she said. "Nothing moves in this palace without my knowing."
She turned then, eyes sharp yet warm as they settled on Ishita's face... then her abdomen.
"You are pregnant," she said. Not asking.
Ishita nodded slowly.
Rajmata smiled.
Not joyfully.
Not gently.
But protectively.
"Then from today," she said, "this is no longer Kabir's war alone."
She rang the small bell beside the shrine.
Within minutes, trusted guards appeared.
"No unnecessary movement," Rajmata instructed. "No staff rotation. No leaks."
She looked directly at Kabir. "Rafael will not touch her."
Kabir's jaw tightened. "I'll end him before he tries."
Rajmata's gaze hardened. "No."
Both Kabir and Ishita looked at her.
"You will end him correctly," she said. "Not with rage. With certainty."
She turned to Ishita then, her tone softening.
"You will stay in the palace until I say otherwise."
Ishita didn't resist.
"For the child," Rajmata added.
"For the family," Ishita replied.
Rajmata nodded approvingly.

A Threat Too Late
That evening, Kabir received the message.
Rafael:
Congratulations, Kabir. Life looks good on her. It would be a shame if—
The message cut off.
Veer stood beside Kabir, phone in hand.
"We traced him," Veer said quietly. "Paris. Same sector as before. He's exposed."
Kabir's eyes darkened.
"Good," he said. "Because this time, I'm not leaving alone."
Veer hesitated. "Bhai—"
"I won't risk Ishita," Kabir interrupted. "That's why I'm ending this fast."
⸻
A Promise at Night
Ishita lay in bed, palace curtains swaying with the night breeze.
Kabir sat beside her, one hand resting gently on her stomach, hesitant—as if afraid to disturb the miracle.
"I should go," he said quietly.
She turned toward him instantly. "No."
"I won't be long," he assured. "Veer, my team—"
"I don't care," she said softly. "I care that you come back."
Kabir leaned down, pressing a kiss to her forehead... then lower, just above where life had begun.
"I will," he said with absolute certainty. "Because I'm no longer fighting for survival."
She smiled. "You're fighting for home."
